Why this book? I wanted to pick a novel that reflects my love of the language and culture of Mexico. I studied in Mexico for three months, during which time I lived with a Mexican family. I loved every moment. This novel reminds me of that time in my life, not so much because of the plot of the story, but because whenever I re-read this book it allows me to pretend like I’m back there. For those who don’t speak Spanish, there is also an English translation that is well done.
