Sara Jackson
Author: Joseph Conrad
Student: Sara Jackson
Why this book? One either loves or hates Heart of Darkness, but as an English major, I have grown to appreciate its importance to literature, as well as to modern culture as a whole. Heart of Darkness has either appeared on my syllabus or was a topic of discussion in all of my English classes, speaking to what an influential piece of literature it is in any context. And what began as a begruding attitude towards it because of its difficulty has turned into an admiration for raising my reading and examination of the English language to another level.
