John Wickre
Title: Road to Disunion: secessionist at bay, 1776-1854
Author: William Freehling
Student: John Wickre
Why this book? As a master’s degree student at a previous institution, this book was assigned in one of my classes. I enjoyed the language and epic nature of the story involving the sectional divisions leading to the Civil War. While I knew the author had already retired, the fact that he taught at the University of Kentucky helped put this school on my radar when I sought a PhD program.
