Engaging Learners Through Artmaking: choice-based art education in the classroom   Title:  Engaging Learners Through Artmaking: choice-based art education  in the classroom

Author:  Katherine M. Douglas/Diane B. Jaquith

Student:  S. Bryan Reinholdt

Why this book?  At the end of my third year of teaching elementary arts I nearly left the profession.  Unsatisfied with the direction and lack of artistic process in the curriculum, I sought out existing and experimental approaches.  One major resource was Douglas and Jaquith’s Engaging Learners Through Artmaking: choice-based art education in the classroom.  Their work lead me to a national listserv of other teachers practicing the style known as Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) and one of the major theorists that inspired them is now my mentor: George Szekely.  Given this, I cannot leave UK without recognizing this text and my profound appreciation for both.
