Why this book? This is without a doubt the finest novel I have ever read. Through the coming-of-age of the main character, this story examines the ways in which we are each bound by our own unique fault lines: genetic makeup, upbringing, surroundings, misguided passions, poor decisions, flawed actions, and self-view. Despite these apparent limitations upon our individual freedom and happiness, we are moved to create meaning in our lives.
