Melinda Borie
Title: The Ocean at the End of the Lane
Author: Neil Gaiman
Student: Melinda Borie
Why this book? In the summer of 2013, shortly before I moved to Lexington and began pursuing my MSLS degree, I made a special trip to town to see Neil Gaiman give a reading from his new book, The Ocean at the End of the Lane. It was the last book-signing tour he would ever do.
He was interesting and kind. I thanked him, and he shook my hand. I spend the next day and night immersed in this spectacular, haunting novel. I felt a connect I am rarely privileged to feel with a book, and it provided extra affection for the city of Lexington just at a time when I needed it most.
