Title:Barefoot Gen: a cartoon story of Hiroshima
Author: Nakazawa Keiji
Student: Brad Allard
Why this book? This manga series has had a profound impact upon my thinking of war and society, and how war affects ordinary citizens. Even today, I can still see images of the horrific scars of the atomic bomb survivors as depicted within this series. Despite the overwhelming destruction of the atomic weapons, Barefoot Gen offers a message of hope in which one can overcome all hardships. I chose this book in hopes to spread this important message in times of growing global tensions.
