Why this book? Kindred by Octavia Butler is a true gem and means a lot to me. It reminds us that in order to change and learn from history, we must first know where we came from. Touching on racism, slavery, survival, and integration, it is a great book to introduce discussions on equitability and our nation’s history. It means a lot to me because it is one of the tools used to fuel my passion for civil rights and change.
