Lauren Farmer
Title: Delia Webster and the Underground Railroad
Author: Randolph Paul Runyon
Student: Lauren Farmer
Why this book? One afternoon I was walking in Special Collections, and a book on display caught my eye. It was about Delia Webster, the first woman imprisoned for helping enslaved persons run away, and it took place right here in Lexington. I was so fascinated by the case that it became the topic for my senior thesis as a history major. This book reminds me of why I love Lexington, UK, and the library: each has provided a place for me to discover untold stories.
