Why this book? This is a book I’ve always loved. When I am stressed from exams or writing papers I know that this is a book that I can crack open to any page and immediately be immersed in the story and not worry about the pressures of my degree program. It is also a quite interesting presentation of Irish history (albeit with some fictional padding), covering not only the Great Famine but leads all the way to the Easter Uprising and the beginnings of Sinn Fein.
