Why this book? This was my favorite book as a child, and it along with many others, made me fall in love with the written word. That love has served me well, made me successful in academia, and pointed the way to my career. As a librarian, I will be able to give back to “the written word” what it has given me.
Also, this story sends a message about saving your energies to fight what can be fought and accepting with grace the things that cannot be. this is a valuable lesson at any age.
