Title: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: a savage journey to the heart of the American dream
Student: Marcia Rapchak
Why this book? Hunter S. Thompson’s gonzo journalism helped me overcome my own Fear and Loathing throughout my academic career. Blending fact and fiction, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is hilarious, poignant, disturbing, and brilliant all at once. This book is many things–a critique of the American Dream, a roman a clef, and a picturesque novel, to name a few–and I enjoy rediscovering all these elements every time I read it. Mr. Thompson was a great Kentuckian, and he is sorely missed by all who enjoyed his work.
