Title: Sir Gawain and the Green Knight/J.R.R. Tolkien & E.V. Gordon, eds.
Student: Laura Hess
Why this book? While working on my masters in Library and Information Science, I took a History class on manuscripts prior to the printing press. For our final project, we were to choose one manuscript that was created before 1450 and explore its production. I chose the classic Arthurian legend Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The Tolkien edition is by far the best scholarly edition of the text and is highly praised for its detailed apparatus. Studying this text sparked an interest in paleography and made me want to continue my education in Classics and Medieval Literature.
