Title: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: an inquiry into values/Robert M. Pirsig
Student: Mitch Morton
Why this book? I began my studies at UK with what Pirsig would categorize as an exclusively “Classical” approach to life, a sentiment the nameless protagonist of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance echoes at the start of the story. However, in reading this book, I joined the main character in slowly realizing that my aversion to the “Romantic” approach to life was erroneous, and that an accurate perception of the world must encompass both its rational and irrational faculties. This book has had a profound impact on my growth as a programmer and, more importantly, as a person.
