Title: Pocket Congressional Directory
Author: U.S. Congress
Student: Aaron Thompson
Why this book? One day while shelving in Government Documents, I came across this book. It is a pictorial directory of the Members of Congress that were serving during the 82nd Congress from 1951 – 1953. What is interesting about this book, in particular, is that it was the personal copy of Fred M. Vinson. Fred Vinson would have been Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Coutrt (previously he had served as a Congressman from Kentucky as well as Secretary of the Treasury). I find this book interesting because it would’ve been in his office, more than likely, during this time. As a fellow Eastern Kentuckian myself, I admire his path to become an influential American political leader for many years between the 1930s and 1950s.
