Title: The God of Small Things
Student: Jameisha Smith
Why this book? I had to read this book for a class I took one semester. When I started reading it, I did not like it. The perspective of the chapters was confusing, and the story was being told from various points in time starting at the end. The writing is very implicit, and requires you to think about the details given to you, and make connections throughout. Until you get to the end of the book, you will not explicitly see the statements the story is making. Everything I didn’t like about the book when I started reading it is why I ended up loving it. The actual story the book tells is unpleasant, but it is told in a way that makes you think about how powerful the small things are. The story breaks down love in so many ways and makes you think about how love is taken for granted.
