Why this book? While working at Young Library during the summer of 2014, I parked in an unmonitored residential lot near the baseball field. Each day I walked 10 minutes to work and 10 minutes back to my car. I would read during those walks, stepping carefully, and savoring each word. Eventually I was able to navigate the path without looking up from my book.
I read several books that summer, but none of them impacted me the way Fahrenheit 451 did. This 50th Anniversary Edition is the very same edition I read during those walks. For as long as I live I will associate this book with sunny days and sundresses, the beautiful willow tree near Ingels Hall, the way it felt to walk out of the sun and into the library, and the peace of mind I found on those daily strolls across campus.
